Dr. Susan Jane Taub
is an expert specializing in eye surgery. She currently serves in Chicago as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Northwestern University and Children's Memorial Hospital and Instructor at Rush Medical College, teaching Comprehensive and Pediatric Ophthalmology and Medical Ethics. Early in her career, Dr. Taub taught at the University of Chicago. In addition to her academic appointments, she has been in private practice for more than twenty years.As an active member of the medical and vision community, Dr. Taub is a Diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and an Honorary Member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Section of Ophthalmology. She received the American Medical Association's Physician Recognition Award every year since 1986. As a member, she serves on multiple committees of the American Medical Association, American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, American Society of Law and Medicine. Dr. Taub is a past chairperson of the Vision Council of America's medical advisory board called The Better Vision Institute, and is the co-founder of "WOW", Women Ophthalmologists in the Windy City.
Dr. Taub is regularly quoted as a medical expert in multiple national and international publications, including Forbes and Parade, has also appeared on National Public Radio's "The Parent's Journal". In 2006, Dr. Taub had the distinguished honor to be named in Chicago Magazine's "Top Doctors" and "100 Best". She has published in the American Journal of Ophthalmology, American Journal of Medical Genetics, Comprehensive Ophthalmology Update, and Refractive Eyecare, and serves on the editorial board of two peer-reviewed journals, Comprehensive Ophthalmology Update and Refractive Eyecare. Dr. Taub was the Editor of "The Ethical Lens" featured in Comprehensive Ophthalmology, which is no longer in print.
Dr. Taub received her medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine and performed her residency there. Dr. Taub earned a Bachelors Degree in Anthropology with Phi Beta Kappa honors from the University of Michigan.
Dr. Taub's philosophy of care is to engender patient education and participation in care.
